Another early Butter Sculpture was “The Rural Lovers”, sculpted by John K. Daniels for Beatrice Creamery. Daniels is considered by many to be one of the best sculptors Minnesota ever produced. Many of his works, sculpted from media other than butter, are in the Minnesota State Capitol and on the Capitol Grounds, including statues of Knute Nelson, Leif Erickson, and General Sanborn. He also sculpted monuments at several Civil War Battlefield sites, and busts of William and Charles Mayo at the University of Minnesota. While in his 80s, he sculpted two huge statues, Leif Erickson in bronze and "Earthbound" in marble, for the Veteran’s Administration Building on the Minnesota Capitol Grounds. He died in 1978.
