500. 1904 Stereoview~11th Cavalry at Grandstand Era: 1907 & Earlier Publisher: Anonymous |
In 1904, the Eleventh Cavalry from Fort Des Moines gave demonstrations and drills at the grandstand. They made an impressive sight while marching in formation around the track and passing in review. There were “Roman Races” with each trooper standing on the backs of two horses; a “Cossack Charge” between two troops with soldiers standing in their stirrups; and “Rescue Races” with horsemen dashing to a fallen soldier, jerking him onto the horse, and dashing to safety. |
